What satisfies your hunger?

The other day, my wife and I decided to have leftovers for dinner. I tried one dish, but it didn’t satisfy my hunger. I moved on to another, but that didn’t help either. Soon, I found myself snacking on various things, searching for something that would truly satisfy. But nothing worked. I ended up overeating, chasing after that elusive feeling of satisfaction.

Isn’t life often like that? We all have a deep hunger within us—an emotional and spiritual longing for something meaningful and fulfilling. Yet, too often, we try to satisfy that hunger with temporary pleasures and material comforts—things that are mere “fillers.” These fillers may appeal to our senses temporarily, but they never truly fulfill our deeper needs. In fact, pursuing them excessively often leaves us feeling emptier than before, chasing satisfaction but never finding it.

Many wise teachers and spiritual leaders describe this inner hunger as a “God-shaped” hole in our hearts. I believe this captures the reality perfectly. The truth is, only a genuine, committed relationship with God can truly satisfy that deep hunger within us.

If you find yourself struggling to prioritize your spiritual life and your commitment to your local church over material things or social and/or recreational pursuits, consider reflecting on this powerful prayer from Psalm 90:14:

“Satisfy us in the morning with your faithful love so that we may shout with joy and be glad all our days.”

When our hearts are genuinely satisfied by God’s faithful love, the endless pursuit of unsatisfying “fillers” loses its appeal. Instead, we find lasting joy, fulfillment, and purpose.

Think about it—are you ready to seek the one true source of satisfaction that can finally fill your heart?
